Who We Are & What We Do
GrassRoots in Action (GIA) was founded in response to increased homelessness and violence in the Minneapolis-St.Paul metro. Founder Artiste Mayfield recognized a lack of community connection and created events to bring citizens of color together to discuss their visions for the future. GIA aims to increase civic engagement, educate the community on political institutions, and mobilize citizens to ensure their voices are heard in policy-making.

GIA's Core Pillars
Assess
Assess, communicate, and advocate for the needs of North Minneapolis residents.
Educate
Educate North Minneapolis residents about the city, state, and federal policies that affect their lives and how they can be involved in shaping those policies.
Mobilize
Mobilize North Minneapolis residents to vote, take part in the policy-making process, and draw attention to proposed policies that would be detrimental or beneficial to North Minneapolis residents.
Support
support North Minneapolis residents who are struggling with common challenges in lower-income areas by providing spaces for reflection and healing, creating networks for advice and connecting them with public services.
